Cutting & Gouging

Cutting and Gouging used to be carried out by fitters.But my recent experience thought me something different.One way companies cut costs in this era is to hire multi-skilled Welders who can cut and Gouge perfectly when needed in operations.It is common in power generation services.Therefore, in order to have an edge in this competitive era, Welders should acquire cutting and gouging expertise to become relevant in the welding industry.

Jonathan, you make a good point. In general there is a move to multi-skilling to reduce costs in many different jobs. The "commoditised Welder" will struggle to get work in the future.

Welders need to have additional skills that they can offer as an edge in qualifying for jobs / contracts. The Welder with the wider range of skills and experience will definitely have an advantage.
